Drop Waist Dress + St. Jude Boston Event

DRESS: Zara, old {similar HERE & spring version HERE } | OTK BOOTS: Missguided  | HANDBAG: SheIn {fabulous & $15!}| FUR WRAP:Forever 21 {on sale for $7!}  | EARRINGS: BaubleBar

This is one of my favorite outfits I’ve worn this winter! What I love most about this look is the drop waist dress. It’s such a flattering cut and I love how lightweight it feels. With the snow we had dumped on us yesterday here in Boston {thanks Stella!} and cold temps in the forecast, I wanted to share one more cold weather look before I started with spring content!

Every Monday Greg and I try to make it out for a date night. It doesn’t happen every week due to his insanely ambitious work life {not complaining because his drive is one of my favorite things about him}, but this Monday we made it happen and went to see the movie, Get Out. OMGoshh it was one of the best movies I’ve seen in a while! It’s a thriller mixed with the right dose of comedy to keep it light but also has a powerful message at the end. Highly suggest! I also was so happy to eat popcorn and reese’s pieces for dinner 🙂

Now onto some Boston Buzz! I want to bring attention to a St. Jude event on May 6th that’s near and dear to my heart, something I have been involved with for 4 years {and an amazing excuse to dress up}, The 5th Annual Toast to St Jude! The event features a lounge-style reception with hors d’oeuvres, open beer and wine bar, live band, LOTS of dancing, silent auctions and premier raffles! This year we plan on having 400+ young professionals attend all to benefit the mission of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, ensuring that no family pays for their child’s treatment.  Early bird tickets are on sale HERE!! Make sure you get them before March 31st before prices go up! I would loveee to see you there and please share with your friends <3

Statement Red Jumpsuit

And here we are, back with the snow. Hope everyone had an awesome weekend! If you follow me on Instagram then you know mine was filled with friends, dancing, love and a wedding. It was amazing to have everyone together to celebrate my friend Shauna marry her Jeff, it really was a winter wonderland. One of those weekends you truly never want to end.  Friday was official wedding weekend kickoff and I did just that in this fun little red number.

Now onto this statement red jumpsuit, shall we? Knowing I was wearing a silver/black dress for the wedding I wanted a colorful outfit for the night before. When I first saw this jumpsuit I knew I had to have it for two reasons, it’s red and well, ruffles!  At first I was a little intimidated with the bold color and my poor pale skin in March not seeing the sun in a very long time so I went out on a search for a miracle self tanner. This is where I found St Moriz self tanning mousse! I’m so impressed with how dark it made my skin without looking orange, how easy it is to apply and that it lasted 2 days. Oh and the best part is that it’s only $10 for the bottle and the applicator mitt- make sure you order the applicator mitt to avoid striking and for a smooth application! I think I’m now obsessed with self tanner, it’s insane how much better you feel with a little tan..am I right!?

How was everyone’s weekend!?

Whether you have a romantic date planned with your honey or sipping cocktails with girl friends, Valentine’s Day is the perfect opportunity to dress up and hit the town. Greg and I’s first Valentine’s day together he planned a whole night with a fancy dinner but the blizzard that year ruined those plans. Instead we stayed in bed, ordered sushi takeout from my favorite spot, Irashai and watched our favorite show, Suits! It ended up being such a fun night and we’ve made it a tradition every since.

What I love about this outfit is how glamorous it looks while still being SUPER affordable! So affordable that the sweater and skirt combine is only $42 and makes for such a fun look, Valentine’s day or not! To me, the sleeves on this sweater  resembles coral and gives me all the summer vibes- just what I need right now with all these snow storms!

How was everyone’s weekend? Mine was really low key binging Vice, it’s so addicting!  Only time I really got ready was yesterday for a bubbly brunch with the Hyatt Regency Boston. It was such a gorgeous spread and I’m still thinking about the sour cream pancakes and bourbon syrup..yummm.

I would love to hear about your Valentine’s Day plans!!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Hi lovies! Remember me!? After neglecting my poor baby blog for almost a month I’m happy to finally be back on my blogging game! Since my day job consists of 90% computer work,  I’ve been in a funk lately where I have zero motivation to be on my computer at night/weekends. Am I the only one this happens to??

A few things that have been going on since my last post includes a trip to Vegas for my friend’s bachelorette’s {blog post coming soon!}, I took an amazing cooking class with Just Add Cooking at the Boston Public Market Kitchen {highly recommend!}, found a new church that I absolutely love and went skiing last weekend!

As for this look, I love a good, crisp winter white and this sweater is only $29! It’s a nice change from all the dark colors I’m naturally drawn to being so pale during the cold months but the pop of color with the green layering piece makes it fun! Now my only questions is why can’t my hair look like this put together everyday!?

How to Throw a Killer Bachelorette Party

It goes without saying that one of the most exciting things to look forward to after getting engaged {besides the wedding, of course!} is planning the bachelorette party! I’m a total girl’s girl and I’m beyond #blessed to have a large, amazing group of girlfriends. We often find any and every reason to get together to celebrate each other. Anything from finishing her 1st semester of grad school, promotions, engagements, or Galentine’s day! But I know this is not the case in every friend group. Sadly, there are only a few built-in events that focus on celebrating female friendships..meaning it is essential to make sure your bride-to-be bestie has a killer bachelorette party!! In honor of leaving for Vegas this Friday for my friend Shauna’s bachelorette, let’s do this!!

how to plan a killer bachelorette party

  If you’re anything like me, you can agree that there is nothing better than a champagne filled weekend with your ladies. With thoughts of planning summer weddings in full swing & engagements happening what seems to be every weekend,  I thought it would be fun to share some festive ideas to ensure your bride-to-be girlfriend has the best “last fling before the ring” imaginable 🙂

First things first, I want to draw attention to this genius new platform, The Bach. Here you will find excellent tips for bridesmaids to plan the ultimate bachelorette party, seriously check it out! Depending on your city, The Bach will customize an itinerary of the must do’s! I would suggest not involving the bride in every detail- surprises make it fun and she has enough on her plate with planning the wedding.

Guide to Planning a Killer Bachelorette Party:

  1. Pick a killer location: Whether you decide on a destination weekend or staying local with a night out in your city, there are so many options for every budget! Keep in mind that the bachelorette party doesn’t need to be obnoxiously expensive or far away to be an amazing time 🙂 It’s also important to plan a party/location that fits what the bride would love!
    1. Destination: Vegas, Miami, Nashville and San Juan, PR are some of the most popular for destination celebrations.  I often find that renting a house or condo from VRBO can save a ton of $$ in comparison to hotels. Having a kitchen also gives you the option to cook instead of eating out every meal. And come on how much more fun is it to all stay together!?
    2. Staying local: If staying close to home is more within budget, a spa day, dinner & dancing, crashing the pool at a hotel or pole dancing class could all be a blast!  The most important thing to remember is that it isn’t where you are, it’s who you’re with that matter most 🙂
  2. Send out Printed Invitations: I talked about my love for sending thank you notes in this post and my thoughts on printed invitations are no different! The biggest thing to keep in mind when choosing invitations is to make sure they coincide with the bride’s personality and the theme {if there is one}. Send out invites about 4-6 weeks prior to ensure sure everyone has it on their calendars. This sequin invite from Zazzle is perfect for the glam bride! I discovered Zazzle while looking for glittery business cards- I decided on this and could not be more obsessed! For the more classic bride I’d suggest going with thisYou can never go wrong with Etsy!
  3. Customize the decorations: Whether you’re decorating the hotel suite/rental house, the dining room at the hostess’s house or out at a venue, decorations will really bring the party to life! I’m a big fan of customized decorations that show you put in the extra effort to show the bride she’s one of a kind! Here are some ideas..
    1. Gold letter balloonsBalloons are a great way to fill in empty space and really make a statement. Spell out “BRIDE” or “MRS. __” for that extra touch. I found these balloons at my local Party City! {see how I’ve used them here}
    2. Monogrammed desserts This is such a fun way to incorporated the bride’s soon to be new last name in yummy treats!
  4. Give favors-Bridesmaids and friends of the bride took time and spent money to attend the celebration, make sure to show your appreciation! These mini bottles of champagne are the perfect gift to get the party started!
  5. Use Fun Accessories:
    1. Temporary Tattoos: To ensure you don’t lose anyone in your party, temporary tattoos are the answer.  I’m loving these washable from Tats4nowDaydream Prints  & Love & Lion– all from Etsy! This “if I’m lost please buy me a drink” can be customized to the name of the bachelorette herself. They also make for memorable favors, just make sure to wash it off before returning to the office Monday 😉

Fun Ideas:

  1. Hire a professional photographer: If there’s bandwidth in the budget, hiring a professional photographer to follow the party around for the night is such a great idea! There’s only so much you can capture with your iPhone camera, professional photos make the fun moments even more special & can be the perfect keepsake for the bride. It also lets you put away your phone for the night and really live in the moment!! Plus, it doesn’t hurt to feel like celebrities for the night 😉
  2. Include the groom: Make the bride feel loved x583725 by encouraging the groom to send something special to the location so it’s waiting for her when she arrives. A bouquet of flowers, champagne on ice or chocolate covered strawberries with a sweet card would ensure to put an even bigger smile on her face 🙂
  3. Use a creative #hashtag: Hashtags are an amazing way to have everyone’s photos in one place on social media. Try to incorporate the bride’s soon to be new last name, the destination or even keep it as simple as #kimsvegasbachelorette, for example.  Check out this website to help generate something creative if nothing comes to mind organically!

As important as it is to plan the party & add details, make sure you don’t OVER plan! Bachelorette parties should be a time for true girl time and celebrating the bride with your favorite gals! I would love to hear about awesome bachelorette parties you have planned/attended!

Thanks for much for stopping by!

Tis the season! It’s no secret that I lovveee sequins, I mean look at my blog name 😉 and this time of year is the perfect opportunity to break out your glittery sequin pieces to add that extra holiday sparkle! If you’re anything like me, holiday parties have been filling the calendar these past few weeks and this skirt has been my go to! I love how long it is {ever wearing pumps} it’s a great length to wear tights underneath without them being too noticeable.

A bold red lip is my favorite color during the winter, there’s something so festive about red and gold together! For my birthday last year my friend Michelle gave me a Kylie Liquid Lipstick and it seriously changed my lipstick game. Ya’ll, this magic lipstick stays on all day no matter how much you eat or drink it does not move!! So I did some investigating and found the company who makes it and discovered Colourpop Cosmetics. While the Kylie product sells for $17 a piece, the Colourpop matte lip goes for only $6!! Nothing makes me happier than finding a good deal on products I love so I stocked up and bought 7 tubes on Cyber Monday. I’m obsessed and highly recommend you check them out, they also have some amazing colors!

This Saturday marks Sequins are the New Black’s 1st anniversary so I thought it would be fun to share some of my favorite sequin moments that are perfect for all your holiday festivities!

*sequin leggings with a blazer { shop them here }

*this black sequin blazer is the perfect way to dress up any casual look! { shop it here }

*green sequin skirt with a black turtleneck (perfect color for the holidays!)

What are some of your favorite ways to wear sequins?

Breast Cancer Awareness with Mom

breast cancer awarenessbreast cancer awarenessbreast cancer awareness breast cancer awarenessbreast cancer awarenessbreast cancer awareness

SWEATER: J.Crew| NECKLACE: Touchstone Crystal by Swarovski {c/o}| HAT: BP

Photos by Dad! {I’m quite impressed}

Today is an extra special post because my mom {and Tipper!} are making their debuts on Sequins are the New Black! When the opportunity came up to partner with Touchstone Crystal for their breast cancer awareness pendant I knew I had to jump on it.

 With the holidays quickly approaching { how is it already Thanksgiving tomorrow!?} it really has me thinking about what’s important in life: my family, my health and my family’s health and how thankful I am to have all three 🙂 If you were wondering why this post is happening after Breast Cancer Awareness month, I did that on purpose. Due to personal experience, in my heart, I believe breast cancer is a disease we should be talking about year round, not limiting it only to 30/365 days per year.

I typically don’t get super personal on my blog, but I felt there is no better time than the present to open up. Let’s take it back to May of 2003 when my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer. The night my parents broke the news to my brother and I at dinner is something that will stick with me forever as one of the scariest moments of my life. Fortunately, the oncologist caught it early and my mom went in for a mastectomy and chemotherapy soon after to start the cancer ass kicking process. I promise this story ends well.. 🙂  I remember my first day of high school so well. Not because it was my first day at a new school, but because it was my mom’s last day of chemo! This September marked her 13th amazing year in remission!!! Every year I reflect on what I could have done differently during that time and what I gained from that experience..

  1. Live life to the fullest: Cliche, I know but if you’re lucky enough to know her personally, my mom often says “I could be dead tomorrow” when she’s talking plans. I’ll never forget the family trip to Hershey Park we took the summer she was going through treatment. The woman was so determined to not let cancer slow her down that summer. Even in the extreme heat while not feeling her best, she still made the most of our time away. Mom, you’re a rockstar!!
  2. Positivity is the only option: Watching my mom battle cancer and the sickness and pain that came from aggressive chemotherapy, her spirit never broke. Of course, some days were better than others but overall she remained in high spirits that this step back was not going to break her.  She would always say,”Negativity is what kills you” and that stuck with me! I try to live my life in the same fashion. My mom is truly one of the most positive people I know and I love her for it.

At the end of the day, yes my blog is fashion focused but my hope and dream is to always inspire my readers to see the beauty in every aspect of their life!!

I would love to hear in the comments below what you’re thankful for! 🙂

Thank you so much for stopping by & I hope everyone has an amazing Thanksgiving <3

Black Drape Jacket

DRAPE JACKET: MakemeChic {c/o} | DRESS: Pam & Gela | HEELS: Vince Camuto | EARRINGS: House of Harper | LIPS: Laura Mercier {Wildflower}

I have to be honest and say that I feel pretty Kim. K in this tight midi dress/ black drape jacket combo. Greg on the other hand, got a kick out of calling me “The Matrix” all day! Since I haven’t seen the movie, I’m not sure on how to take that hah! Anyways, there are three things I love so much about this jacket, 1. it’s super affordable at only $35, 2. the fabric is really lightweight, perfect for these 60 degree November days,  3. the classic color { I have almost nothing black in my wardrobe!}.

Over the weekend I took a trip to Ikea with my mom to cross some items off the apartment “to buy” list. I picked up a bookshelf, desk and shelving unit for decor. I’m currently writing this on my new desk and it’s already made such a difference in my productivity! I have a really hard time focussing/ staying awake while sitting on the couch so having a designated work space to call my own makes me really excited! Planning is underway on how I want to arrange the gallery wall for my new “clo-fice” {office in a closet}. Does anyone have any recommendations of their favorite place to buy fun prints/quotes?

Thanks so much for stopping by!

FUR VEST: Love Token | WATCH: JORD Wooden Watch {c/o} | JEANS: J Brand | TOP: SheIn {c/o} | HANDBAG: Henri Bendel | HEELS: Missguided

Happy Tuesday and Happy Election Day, everyone! Sorry I was MIA last week, Greg and I moved into our new apartment and I’ve been feeling a little unsettled while we organize the place. I’m still trying to wrap my head around the fact that we have more closets here than our last apartment, yet I’m having a hard time fitting all my clothes, bags and shoes hah! I can’t wait to share all my new home decor once everything is put together 🙂 These leopard pillows are on their way and I could not be more excited!

I wanted to pair a minimalistic accessory with this vest, so I went with this JORD watch I got earlier this fall. Each piece is made from word, making this the lightest watch I’ve ever tried on. When I came across the Frankie Watch in Zebrawood & Navy I knew I had to have it! It’s unlike anything else in my watch collection { I mostly wear gold and silver} so I found the wood details great for making a statement in a unique way. JORD has a great selection of wooden watches for both women & men!

I’m so excited for the amazing giveaway I have for you! My friends at JORD and I are giving away a $75 e-gift card to one lucky reader! All other entries will receive a $20 e-gift code automatically emailed to them JUST for entering! Yes, you heard that right, everyone wins! Click HERE to enter 🙂

Happy Wednesday, babes! Who knew delicate florals and edgy leather would look so cool together? My goal with this look was to really amp up the edge factor and this velvet & chain crossbody was the perfect touch! You really can’t go wrong with the fall floral print, length and price of this dress, coming in at $20!!

Did anyone noticed something new on my site!? I finally crossed “update blog logo” off my blogging to do list and I couldn’t be happier with the finished product! “Sequins are the New Black” is out with the boring black font and in with the new gold glitter writing..thank you, Kelsey!! Hope you’re having a great week so far!
