Fall Favorites+Giveaway!!

backpack | grey sweater | dress | lipstick {MAC fleshpot} | earrings | jeans | hat | scarf | booties

We are half way through the week! My walks to work have been a little chillier than normal and I never thought I’d say this but I’m getting sick of wearing dresses and skirts {insert monkey covering eyes emoji}. With the temps cooling down it has me thinking about my fall favorites for this year!

I invested in a leather backpack earlier this month and I’m not quite sure why it took me so long to jump on the backpack bandwagon…it makes walking around the city so much easier! I was shocked, in the best way, that Vera Bradley now has leather bags. Honestly, softest leather I’ve ever felt! Hats and sweaters will forever be on my fall favorite lists. One of best things about sweater season is how versatile and comfy they are- all you need to do is to dress them up is with a hat  and a fun piece of jewelry! As much as I love summer, bring on the sweaters and jeans!

With fall on its way, comes the excitement of fashion week and I have a giveaway to celebrate! I’ve partnered up to give away Linda Feinstein’s new book, Killer Look, a mystery thriller based in the NYC fashion scene and a Touchstone Crystal by Swarovski necklace, a special necklace that is modeled on a famous Swarovski Coco Chanel necklace that was “brought back from the Swarovski archives”   seen in my post here! One reader will receive both Killer Look & the Touchstone Cyrstal necklace. August is always that time of year where I find myself in a rut, style wise. I’ve already warn my favorite summer pieces several times over and I start getting antsy to bring out my fall wardrobe. With the weather still in the high 80’s, I’m not in the mood quite yet to buy sweaters and jackets but I also don’t want to buy any more summer clothes. That’s where this top comes in! It’s easily one of my favorite She In pieces of the summer & at $15 how could it not be!? You can see more of my love for SheIn here 🙂

Today, I’m sharing one of my favorite outfits this summer! I’ve been on the hunt to add a pair of overalls to my closet for a while now, but finding the perfect pair has been no easy task.  This pair has just the right amount of subtle distress while also being beyond comfortable! I tied in the neon accessories for a fun and summery twist..you can never go wrong with a pop of neon, am I right!?

I’m just getting back into the swing of things after taking last Thursday & Friday off to spend the weekend in the Cape with my family. Every year we head to Provincetown, easily my favorite part of Cape Cod to celebrate my mom’s birthday and just be beach bums. Ptown is home to the most stunning beaches and an insanely fun nightlife- the perfect combination!

*Big thanks to Lizzie Hickey for the photos!

As much as I love sparkle, I’m equally in love with entertaining! I’m a hostess at heart and love throwing parties and entertaining friends any chance I get. Some of my favorite summer nights are spent on the roof deck at my apartment with a bottle of rosé  {or 5} and my favorite people! In addition to my outfit photos, I thought it would be fun to show off my gorgeous guests and share my tips for entertaining in the summer!

Tips for Summer Entertaining:

  1. Prepare the night before: I make sure to hit the food & liquor store in advance to avoid the stress of running around like a crazy woman the day of my party. For food that doesn’t need to be refrigerated, such as crackers and chips, I place them in their appropriate tray or platter {still in the bag} so they are ready to go.
  2. Keep food simple: This is especially helpful in the summer when you’re entertaining outdoors- there’s nothing worse than food going bad from the heat!  Stick to the basics and everyone’s favorites such as chips & salsa, cheese & crackers, fruit and something sweet.
  3. A good playlist is crucial:Music sets the tone of any party and I’m obsessed with my Beats Pill. This bad boy is wireless so you can bring it anywhere and it’s really impressive how loud it gets for how little it is. I love using the Discover Weekly playlist on Spotify, but you can’t go wrong with most of their other playlists either! I also just found out that you can tweet at Spotify requesting they make you your own playlist- pretty cool!
  4. Invest in quality platters: Durable and easy to clean platters are a hostess’s dream! I’ve recently been picking up Mariposa platters anytime I see a shape I like- I’m loving the large pineapple and sailfish for summer!

Now onto this skirt! I first laid eyes on this flamingo print over the winter and had to have it. It’s been sitting in my closet for months just screaming for the opportunity to be worn and what better time than while hosting!? I love the 50’s feel of the A-line skirt with a really fun pattern 🙂

Do you have any summer entertaining tips!?

Weekend Wear |The Most Comfortable Shorts I Own

Weekend WearWeekend WearWeekend WearWeekend WearWeekend WearWeekend WearWeekend Wear

Shorts: Madewell | Tank: Old Navy | Sandals: Last Call | Hat: Target | Handbag: Phillip Lim

I’m sure at this point you’re asking yourself “does Tess own/wear anything besides dresses!?” Surprisingly, there is a tall stack at the top of my closet that I always forget about but after rocking these badboys I’ve made it a mission to incorporate my shorts into my weekend uniform!

Now a days it’s a rare sight to witness me not wearing a dress but that wasn’t always the case. Growing up I was a total tomboy {shocker I know!}. My mom’s friends only had boys meaning most of my “play time” was spent with a pack of 6-7 sports loving males.  All summer we would go camping where we rode our bikes everywhere & I would come home with dirty fingernails {I’m cringing at the memory} and my tomboy self thought it was super cool to wear a daily uniform of Adidas indoor soccer shoes, wind pants and a Patriots jersey. This happened until around 5th grade when I discovered gel pens and bubble shirts..who remembers those!? They were the coolest!!#90skid. And ever since then I’ve been a sequin loving lady!  Were any of you former tomboys growing up!?

Hope you enjoyed that little blast from the past story time- now onto todays outfit. I had such an amazing response to this look on Instagram I figured I’d do an entire post on it. These shorts are hand down the most comfortable pair I own. I’m talking you feel like you’re wearing pj’s comfortable {without the bum look of wearing actual pj shorts in public}.

This dress is truly one of a kind! It was gift from one of my mom’s friends who was cleaning out her closet and asked if I wanted it-  how could a girl say no to that!? It’s been sitting in my closet for a while waiting to be worn to the perfect occasion. When the gold glitter invitation came in the mail a few months ago for my fellow sparkle lover friend Nicole’s bridal shower, I knew I finally had the perfect event to wear it!

In addition to my typical outfit photos I decided to include a few photos from the shower! Everything from Nicole’s dress to the candy bar was beyond gorgeous! I can’t wait for her wedding in September 🙂

Necklace, Earrings & Bracelet thanks to Touchstone Crystal by Swarovski

When I first decided to start my blog, choosing a name that was an accurate and creative representation of who I am was really important to me. I wanted to have a niche but not too much of a niche that I couldn’t relate to a broad audience. I thought about the conversations I had in my head while making decisions on everything from home decor and clothes to thank you cards: “the shinier, the better”, “you can never have enough sequins”, “no such thing as too much glitter” and right there I knew I had my blog name. I was ready to share my life motto of “sequins are the new black” with all my fellow sparkle lovers- and let’s be honest, whoever says they don’t like a little sparkle is missing out on all the fun 😉

What develops organically when you’re a sparkle lover is an infatuation with Swarovskiso when I was introduced to Touchstone Crystal by Swarovski, I was beyond excited to check it out! Not only is all the jewelry from Touchstone Crystal absolutely gorgeous, it’s also top notch quality & affordable {most pieces are under $100!}. What Touchstone Crystals is doing differently is creating a fun, social shopping direct sales business where consultants can earn substantial income and discounts by hosting Touchstone Crystal events.

This chambray off the shoulder dress was my favorite outfit from this weekend in the Cape. It’s simplicity was the perfect look to layer my two favorite long necklaces from the Touchstone Crystal collections. I’m also loving their birthstone collection & how well this darling stretch emerald bracelet can add a little sparkle to a simple look! 4th of July is this Monday, the perfect opportunity to amp up the sparkle!

P.S. You can read more about why I started my blog here!

Red Lace Dress + My Summer Bucket List

Dress: J.O.A | Heels: Steve Madden | Clutch: Nordstrom  | Sunglasses: Le Specs| Bracelet: Cape Cod  | Earrings:Nordstrom

It’s Thursday, people!  The weekend is so close 🙂  Today I’m sharing my first shoot with my new Canon lens! After tons of research I ended up going with the 50mm f/1.8 instead of the 50mm f/1.4The 1.8 lens was half the price {$125} and super similar in photo quality! I’m obsessed with the blurred background and I’m so happy to take another step up in making my little space of the internet look that much better 🙂

Now that summer is in full swing I’ve been living in dresses and skirts! This hot red number is so feminine and chic I was immediately attracted to it. On the subject of summer, today I thought it would be fun to share my summer bucket list in hopes of inspiring you to make one of your own!

  1. Go to a drive in movie- Growing up my parents always took us to the drive in. Greg and I went last year for the first time in probably 15 years and it was so fun I put it back on the list for this year!
  2. Have a picnic- Every time I’m in the Boston Public Garden I get so jealous of anyone having a picnic! There’s something about drinking wine with cheese & crackers on a blanket in a beautiful park that make it all that sweeter. I also want an excuse to get this Ultimate Picnic Basket…so so cute!
  3. Read 10 books- I’m currently finishing up Luckiest Girl Alive but on my list is The Nest & The Good Girl. There’s so many good books on my list to get through this summer I can’t wait to hit the beach and get at it. If my 5th grade self could hear me right now she would never believe it- I dreaded summer reading growing up.
  4. Take a trip to Block Island- Block Island is the ultimate Rhode Island hidden gem! The island is only 7 miles long and 3 miles wide so bike riding the entire island is the way to go. Cresent Beach is gorgeous and I never leave BI without having a mudslide {or 3} at Yellow Kittens Tavern!
  5. Try different ice cream flavors- I’m obsessed with fro-yo, I’m pretty sure I could have it everyday & never get sick of it. But during the summer I love making the switch to hard, full fat ice cream. I’m typically a black raspberry chocolate chip girl but Toscanini’s in Cambridge is knows for their crazy flavors so you know where I’ll be!
  6. Hit 1000 Instagram followers- This one sounds silly but its a goal of mine 🙂
  7. Host a roof deck party-Last week I hosted my girlfriends from work on my apartment building’s roof deck and it was such a good time I plan to host more! I’ve been stocking up on Mariposa platters whenever I see them because you can never have enough platters {am I right!?} and they make for a really pretty spread.
  8. Crash a wedding- This is something that has been on my general bucket list for years but this summer I want to make it happen! I’ll keep you posted if I get the guts to execute 😉
  9. Master paddle boarding- Paddle boarding is something I’ve tried to do well for a few summers now but I’ve decided this is my year to master it!
  10. Play tennis-I played tennis in high school but haven’t really gotten back into it since. This summer I plan to break out the old Wilson rack & Nike skirt and hit the courts.

What’s on your summer bucket list this year!?

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Yellow Off the Shoulder Dress

Dress: ASOS {only $25 & comes in multiple colors!} | Wedges: Seychelles, old {similiar} | Sunglasses: BP.

Hi friends, happy hump day! I wore this dress while in Key West a few weeks ago on a girls trip! I could not be more in love with the bright color- also can’t beat the fact that it costs $25!! Which makes me want {and probably will} to buy it in every color 🙂

This week I’ve been working out almost every night thanks to the The Fitness Collective! Working out consistently has always been tough for me, I am totally not a gym person but I love good classes with high energy. My competitive side comes out and it really drives me to work out as hard as I can. The Fitness Collective was created when Cyc Fitness (the most incredible spin studio..take Jonathan’s class!) teamed up with other studios in Boston to offer a week pass of 6 classes for only $75! Other class options include boxingbikram yoga and a running studio. Last night Alexa and I went to Pure Barre and today I am sore in muscles I didn’t even know existed! Even growing up doing ballet this class was NO JOKE! It’s definitely worth checking out 🙂 Have any of you tried out any of these studios before?

Must Pack Two Piece for Your Beach Vacation

two piecetwo piece two piecetwo piece two piecetwo piece

Two Piece Set: Nordstrom | Handbag: December Thieves  {similar here- Shopbop} | Heels: Steve Madden | Necklace: Bauble Bar

When I first laid eyes on this off the shoulder two piece set I knew I had to have it! Something about it just screams “WEAR ME SOMEWHERE BEACHY!”. Greg and I went to the beach Memorial Day Weekend and I wore it to dinner & drinks on the water afterwards {for some reason I would feel really silly wearing this in the city..am I crazy!?}. I paired it with these pink Steve Madden sandals and a straw bag with pink trim to really add that fun pop of color!

This week is a short one for me because I’m heading to Key West with the ladies tomorrow!  I feel like I just got off the plane from France and already jumping on another- but hey, not complaining! This two piece will definitely be coming with me 🙂

Below I have linked my favorite two pieces that will guarantee to be a hit on your summer vacation! Check em’ out!!

Thanks so much for stopping by!
